For anybody not particularly au fait with his career , put this output on hold and refer back to the golden period of the mid fifties to late sixties .
Before he totally lost the plot in both life and music .

Miles was addicted to more things than we lesser beings have fingers . He became a hopeless mess and his huge record output is latterly just him thinking aloud and constantly experimenting .
A complete disregard for quality control and a huge change in personal resonance ----- to become raw , unbalanced , fractured and lacking a good sense of form and structure --- the addict's mantras .
There was nobody in his life to regulate , control and pick out what was worth saving .

It is not coincidence that his best loved period reflects the control that Columbia and separately individuals like his arranger , Gil Evans , established .
Left to his own devices he was a towering genius but lost in his private dreams and addictions . imho .
